Conte: This is Verratti's chance to impress for Italy

The boss has urged his players to prove themselves during the international break in the absence of some veteran stars

Italy head coach Antonio Conte says Marco Verratti has a perfect chance to prove his worth during the upcoming international fixtures.
Verratti, who has been in exceptional form for Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, was named in the squad to face Bulgaria and England this week. The match against the former is a Euro 2016 qualifier, while the latter is a friendly.
With experienced midfielder Daniele De Rossi left out and Andrea Pirlo having been replaced by uncapped Mirko Valdifiori due to injury, Conte feels now could be the perfect time fo Verratti to step forward as the Azzurri's central linchpin.
"Pirlo and De Rossi are two good players who still have a lot to offer," Conte told a press conference.
"However, this can be a chance for someone like Verratti to show they can inherit this midfield.
"It's time to evaluate and see what situations are on the horizon. I choose players for the national team based on their form, we monitor all the players and their psychological condition.
"I want to send a message to everyone, young and old: the national team is for the best. You have to prove your worth and that you deserve a place."
Conte admits it has been difficult to prepare given that the national side have not met up for some time.
“These four months were not easy. We tried to keep busy, to watch other teams and see how other leagues are training.
"But I wasn't content. It’s not in my nature. I like to work, and I'm very happy to be back working, that's for sure."
