Kucher handed quickest Champions League red card

Kucher handed quickest Champions League red card

The Ukraine international was harshly sent off at the Allianz Arena and takes his place in the history books
Shakhtar Donetsk defender Olexandr Kucher received the fastest red card in Champions League history on Wednesday to put Bayern Munich in complete control of their last-16 tie.

The second leg was evenly poised after a goalless draw in Lviv three weeks ago but the visitors' hopes of causing an upset in the return were effectively dashed in the early exchanges.

Just three minutes had elapsed when Kucher was adjudged to have brought down Mario Gotze in the area. There appeared to be limited contact but Scottish referee Willie Collum brandished a red card.

Thomas Muller offered little sympathy to Shakhtar, duly converting the spot-kick with ease.

The dismissal means Kucher takes an unwanted place in the history books. Craig Bellamy was the previous recipient of the quickest red card with the Welshman sent off after five minutes when playing for Newcastle against Inter in 2002.
